American Airlines just launched a brand-new credit card that's already turning heads, and for good reason. The Citi® / AAdvantage® Globe™ Mastercard® (see rates & fees) is the newest addition to the American Airlines credit card lineup, slotting perfectly between the casual traveler's Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite Mastercard® ($99 fee) and the frequent flyer's Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard®($595 fee). It combines bonus AAdvantage miles-earning with practical annual credits and strong travel protections.

With this card, you can enjoy lounge access and statement credits and earn elite-qualifying Loyalty Points on every purchase. Though there's a $350 annual fee, you can easily offset that cost if you're an American Airlines frequent flyer and take advantage of the card's rewards and benefits.

Whether you're chasing AAdvantage Executive Platinum status or want priority perks and fewer fees, here's a look at what you can get from the AAdvantage Globe card. If you fly American 4-12 times per year, chase elite status, or want lounge access without paying $595, this might be your card. Let's break down exactly who benefits and who should look elsewhere.

Loyalty Points on Every Purchase

Every purchase on your AAdvantage Globe card earns 1 Loyalty Point per $1. Loyalty Points determine your elite status level with American Airlines.

Status tiers:

  • AAdvantage Gold (Oneworld Ruby): 40,000 Loyalty Points
  • AAdvantage Platinum (Oneworld Sapphire): 75,000 Loyalty Points
  • AAdvantage Platinum Pro (Oneworld Sapphire): 125,000 Loyalty Points

AAdvantage status offers perks including free checked bags, complimentary seat selections, upgrades, priority check-in, and more, depending on your status level.

Bonus Loyalty Points With a Flight Streak

The AAdvantage Globe card rewards cardholders with a Flight Streak bonus. For every 4 qualifying American Airlines flights you take each status qualification year, you'll earn 5,000 bonus Loyalty Points.

  • What counts: Only revenue flights (paid tickets) on American Airlines or American Eagle count toward the Flight Streak. Award tickets do not qualify.
  • Maximum earning: Up to 15,000 additional Loyalty Points each status qualification year (12 American Airlines flights).

Redeeming Rewards

You can use the miles you earn on the AAdvantage Globe card for American Airlines flights, seat upgrades, and vacation packages.

  • Premium cabin and international partner flights: Higher mileage requirements but better value

The 90,000-mile welcome bonus can book 12 one-way domestic economy flights at 7,500 miles each, or apply toward premium cabin and international redemptions for maximum value.

American Airlines AAdvantage MileUp Card Review (2025): Is This No-Annual-Fee Travel Card Worth It?

Other Citi® / AAdvantage® Globe™ Mastercard® Features

Book Oneworld Partner Flights

AAdvantage miles can be used to book travel with Oneworld and other American Airlines partners, including British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Etihad Airways, and Hawaiian Airlines. That makes it possible to fly to nearly any destination served by Oneworld or its partners using your miles.

Popular redemptions:

  • Qatar Airways Qsuite business class to the Middle East or Asia
  • British Airways flights to Europe
  • Cathay Pacific to Asia
  • JAL flights within Japan and Asia

Up to $100 for Inflight Purchases Annually

Each year, AAdvantage Globe cardholders get up to $100 in statement credits for inflight purchases on American Airlines and American Eagle flights.

Covered expenses:

  • Food and beverages
  • Wi-Fi
  • In-flight entertainment

This credit is easy to use, and the reimbursement happens automatically on your statement after eligible purchases.

Up to $240 Annually in Turo Credits

Cardholders get up to $30 per statement period for Turo car rentals, up to $240 total annually.

How it works:

  • Earn up to $30 in statement credits for each eligible completed trip on Turo
  • Maximum of $240 in statement credits per calendar year
  • Credits apply per statement period and do not roll over

Hot Tip: These monthly credits are modest, but they can reduce the cost of renting a car when you travel. Even if Turo is slightly more expensive than traditional rental companies, the $30 credit often makes it the cheaper option.

Up to $100 Annual Splurge Credit

You'll get up to $100 in Splurge Credit for select purchases each calendar year. You can choose up to 2 options from the following:

Eligible categories:

  • AAdvantage Hotels bookings
  • 1stDibs
  • Future Personal Training
  • Live Nation

It's similar to the Citi Strata Elite℠ Card Splurge Credit, but for a smaller amount and fewer options.

Hot Tip: Since the Splurge Credit is per calendar year, applying for the card and using your credit by the end of the year can maximize your first-year value.

Up to $120 for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck

Streamline your airport security experience with up to $120 in statement credits every 4 years toward the cost of Global Entry or TSA PreCheck application fees.

Coverage:

  • Global Entry: $120 (includes TSA PreCheck)
  • TSA PreCheck: $78

Global Entry includes PreCheck, so that's the better option if you have a passport and want to save time in security and customs lines.

Hot Tip: If you already have Global Entry or TSA PreCheck with another credit card, you can use your credit for a friend or family member. The credit applies to anyone you pay for.

Free First Checked Bag

You and up to 8 traveling companions on the same reservation can check your first bag free on domestic American Airlines flights.

Savings: This can save you up to $35 per person per trip, which adds up quickly if you're a frequent traveler.

Hot Tip: Checked bag savings add up fast. Fly round-trip twice a year with a partner, and this perk alone can save you up to $280 annually.

Priority Boarding on American Airlines Flights

Get priority Group 5 boarding for you and up to 8 traveling companions on the same reservation.

Benefits:

  • Board earlier than most passengers
  • Extra time to find overhead bin space
  • Settle in before takeoff

This benefit is especially helpful on full flights when overhead storage space fills quickly.

Admirals Club Lounge Access

Every calendar year, you'll receive 4 Admirals Club Globe passes, which are valid at nearly 50 Admirals Club lounges worldwide.

What makes Globe passes special:

  • With the Globe designation, you're guaranteed lounge access even when a lounge typically limits entry
  • Each pass is valid for 24 hours, so you can use your pass at multiple locations in a day
  • You can bring guests, but you'll have to use one of your passes for each adult
  • Up to 3 children under 18 can enter the lounge without using a pass as long as you enter with a pass

Comparison: While the Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard® offers unlimited complimentary Admirals Club access for cardholders, it doesn't provide the Globe designation for greater assurance that you'll get access to the lounge, even when it's busy.

Annual Companion Certificate

Each year after your card renewal, you'll get a companion certificate.

Details:

  • Book a companion ticket for a single round-trip qualifying domestic flight in Main Cabin
  • Cost: $99 plus taxes and fees
  • Restrictions: Not valid on Basic Economy, First, or Business Class

The companion certificate can help you save hundreds on last-minute domestic flights when fares are high, especially around holidays.

Travel and Shopping Protection Benefits

The AAdvantage Globe card includes comprehensive travel and shopping protections when you pay with your card. With trip cancellation and interruption benefits, you may be eligible for reimbursement for nonrefundable travel expenses if your trip is canceled or interrupted due to a covered loss. The policy provides secondary coverage in the U.S. and primary coverage outside the U.S.

Purchase items with your AAdvantage Globe card, and you can double the length of a covered purchase's original manufacturer's warranty or store warranty for up to 24 additional months. You're also covered for up to 120 days from the date of purchase for items you've paid for with your card, with reimbursement available for repair or replacement costs for stolen or damaged items within the covered period.

Final Recommendation: Worth It For The Right Person

American Airlines frequent flyers can get impressive value from the AAdvantage Globe card. With 6x earnings on AAdvantage Hotels, Globe-designated Admirals Club passes, and the industry-leading Flight Streak bonus, this card is a good option for earning significant rewards with American Airlines and premium travel comfort. Thanks to lounge access, annual credits, and travel protections, this card is a well-rounded alternative to other premium travel cards, especially if you regularly fly with American Airlines. Maximize the card's perks, and you can easily outpace the $350 annual fee with $820-1,480 in net annual value.

Who should get this card:

  • American Airlines flyers taking 6-12 trips annually
  • Those chasing AAdvantage Gold or Platinum status
  • Travelers who want lounge access without the $595 Executive card fee
  • Couples who can benefit from the companion certificate

Who should skip this card:

  • Casual flyers (1-3 trips per year) - consider the Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite Mastercard® instead
  • Those who already have unlimited lounge access via the Executive card
  • Multi-airline travelers who prefer flexible points

While the AAdvantage Globe card offers standout value for American Airlines loyalists, more casual travelers may prefer the Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite Mastercard®, which has a $0 intro annual fee, then $99 after the first year, and offers preferred boarding, a free checked bag for the cardholder and up to 4 traveling companions, and a 25% statement credit for inflight food and beverage purchases. Not sure if the Globe card is right for you? Use the free Kudos Test Drive feature to see exactly how many miles you would have earned over the past year if you had this card. We analyze your actual spending patterns to show potential earnings before you apply - no guessing required.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Globe-designated passes different from regular Admirals Club passes?

Globe-designated passes offer priority Admirals Club access, even when lounges typically limit entry due to capacity. Standard day passes can be denied during peak times, but Globe passes guarantee entry. Each pass is also valid for 24 hours, so you can use it at multiple lounges in a single day if you have connections, making them significantly more valuable than regular day passes.

What purchases qualify for the up to $100 inflight credit?

Purchases of food, beverages, and Wi-Fi on American Airlines and American Eagle flights qualify for the inflight credit. The reimbursement happens automatically on your statement after eligible purchases.

How does the Flight Streak bonus work?

For every 4 qualifying American Airlines flights you take during a status qualification year, you earn 5,000 bonus Loyalty Points. You can earn up to 15,000 bonus Loyalty Points each status qualification year, which means you'd max out after taking 12 qualifying flights. Only revenue flights (paid tickets) on American Airlines or American Eagle count toward the Flight Streak. Award tickets and flights on partner airlines do not qualify.

Can I combine Turo credits across statement periods?

No. Cardmembers receive up to $30 in credit per statement period for completed Turo trips, and credits cannot be combined or rolled over across statement periods. If you don't use the $30 credit in a given statement period, it's lost.

What are the restrictions on the companion certificate?

The companion certificate is redeemable for $99 plus taxes and fees for a single round-trip qualifying domestic flight in Main Cabin. It is not valid on Basic Economy fares or on First or Business Class fares. The certificate is issued annually after your card renewal and must be used within the validity period specified in the terms.

Is this card worth it if I already have the Citi AAdvantage Executive card?

It depends on your travel patterns. The Executive card ($595 annual fee) offers unlimited Admirals Club access, while the Globe card only provides 4 Globe passes annually. If you visit Admirals Clubs fewer than 5-6 times per year, the Globe card may offer better value. However, you could hold both cards initially to earn both welcome bonuses, then decide which to keep long-term based on your lounge usage.

Can I get the welcome bonus if I already have other Citi AAdvantage cards?

Yes. Each Citi AAdvantage card is considered a separate product with its own 48-month bonus eligibility window. Since the Globe card just launched today (October 19, 2025), everyone is eligible for the 90,000-mile welcome bonus right now, regardless of which other Citi AA cards you currently hold or have held in the past. However, be mindful of Citi's 8/65 rule: you can only get approved for 1 Citi card every 8 days and 2 Citi cards every 65 days.

When did this card launch and should I apply now?

The Citi® / AAdvantage® Globe™ Mastercard® launched on October 19, 2025. Launch bonuses historically represent the best offers you'll see on a new card. For comparison, when other premium travel cards have launched, early applicants received the highest bonuses, which later decreased by 15,000-30,000 points within 3-6 months. If you're considering this card, applying during the launch window gives you the best chance at the highest bonus.

What credit score do I need to be approved?

While Citi doesn't publish specific score requirements, the Globe card generally requires good to excellent credit, typically a FICO score of 670 or higher. Kudos credit ranges are a variation of FICO® Score 8, one of many types of credit scores lenders may use when considering your credit card application. Having the suggested credit score doesn't guarantee approval, as Citi also considers factors like income, existing debt, and recent credit inquiries. Citi will perform a hard credit inquiry when you apply, which may temporarily lower your score by a few points.

Keep in mind Citi's application rules:

  • 8/65 rule: Maximum 1 Citi card approval every 8 days, and 2 Citi card approvals every 65 days
  • Recent inquiries: Too many recent applications across all banks may result in denial
  • Existing Citi relationship: Having existing Citi accounts may help or hurt depending on your credit limit utilization

Can I check if I'm pre-qualified without affecting my credit score?

Yes. Citi offers a pre-qualification tool that uses a soft credit pull, which does not affect your credit score. You can check your pre-qualification status before submitting a full application. However, pre-qualification is not a guarantee of approval—if you proceed with the full application, Citi will perform a hard credit inquiry.

What other factors does Citi consider for approval besides credit score?

Beyond your credit score, Citi evaluates several factors when reviewing your application:

  • Income: Higher income increases approval odds and may result in a higher credit limit
  • Debt-to-income ratio: Lower existing debt relative to income is favorable
  • Credit utilization: Using less than 30% of your available credit across all cards helps
  • Recent credit inquiries: Applying for multiple cards in a short period can hurt your chances
  • Existing Citi relationship: Current Citi cardholders may have different approval criteria
  • Housing status: Homeowners may have slightly better approval odds than renters

Citi also has internal policies about maximum credit extended to one customer, so if you already have significant credit limits with Citi, you may need to redistribute existing credit rather than getting new credit.

How long should I wait between Citi applications?

Due to Citi's 8/65 rule, you should wait at least 8 days between any Citi credit card applications, and no more than 2 Citi cards should be approved within any 65-day period. Violating these rules will result in automatic denial. Many experienced applicants recommend spacing Citi applications by 90+ days to be safe and to show responsible credit management.

How does this compare to the Platinum Select card?

The Platinum Select ($99 annual fee) is better for casual American Airlines flyers who take 2-4 trips per year and want basic perks like free checked bags and priority boarding. The Globe card ($350 annual fee) is designed for more frequent flyers taking 6-12 trips annually who want lounge access, companion certificates, and accelerated status earning. The Globe offers significantly more value but requires more travel to justify the higher annual fee.

Can I use the companion certificate for someone else if I'm not traveling?

No. The companion certificate requires the primary cardholder to be on the same reservation. Both the cardholder and companion must travel together on the same flights.

Do I need to activate my credits each year?

Most credits on the Globe card are automatic and don't require activation. The inflight purchase credit, Turo credit, and Splurge Credit post automatically as statement credits after eligible purchases. However, you may need to enroll in certain benefits like Global Entry/TSA PreCheck to receive reimbursement.

How long does it take to receive the welcome bonus miles?

After you meet the spending requirement ($5,000 in the first 4 months), bonus miles typically post to your AAdvantage account within 6-8 weeks after the qualifying statement closes.

Can I product change to this card from another Citi card?

Product changes (upgrades or downgrades from existing Citi cards) typically do not qualify for welcome bonuses. To earn the 90,000-mile welcome bonus, you must apply for the Globe card as a new account. If you currently have another Citi AAdvantage card and want the Globe card, you'll need to submit a new application.
