Dick’s Sporting Goods Credit Card Review 2025: Is It Worth It?
July 1, 2025

How the ScoreRewards Credit Card Works
The Dick's Sporting Goods ScoreRewards Credit Card from Dick’s Sporting Goods comes in two versions: a Dick's Sporting Goods ScoreRewards Mastercard that can be used anywhere, and a store-only ScoreRewards card for use at Dick’s and its sister brands. Both versions earn points in the ScoreCard loyalty program. New cardholders get a modest sign-up bonus (around a $30 reward after first purchase). Importantly, there’s no annual fee to carry the card.

Earning Rewards
The ScoreRewards Mastercard earns 2 points per $1 spent at Dick’s stores (including online) – that’s equivalent to 6% back in store rewards, since 300 points equal a $10 reward. Outside of Dick’s, it earns just 1 point per $3 spent (about 1% back), and those points can only be redeemed for Dick’s merchandise.
For a limited time, cardholders earn 3× points (10% back) on Dick’s purchases through early 2026, after which the standard 2× (6% back) rate resumes. Points expire after 12 months if not used, and rewards certificates can only be used toward store purchases (not to pay your credit card bill).
Redeeming Rewards
Every 300 points earned converts to a $10 Dick’s reward. You can redeem rewards in-store or online for sporting goods, apparel, or any merchandise at Dick’s and affiliated stores. However, these rewards are essentially store credit – they can’t be cashed out or used outside the store ecosystem.
Cardholder Benefits and Perks
Beyond earning points, the ScoreRewards card comes with a few notable perks for Dick’s loyalists:
Automatic Gold Status
When you’re approved for the card, you qualify for ScoreCard Gold status immediately. As long as you use your Dick’s card for a purchase at least once per year, you retain Gold each year. Gold status brings extras like a Triple Points Day (pick one day per year to earn 3× points on a Dick’s purchase) and an annual $10 reward just for being Gold. Normally, you’d need to spend $500 in a year at Dick’s to reach Gold without the card, so this is a nice shortcut for cardholders.
Special Financing Options
The card advertises promotional financing on large in-store purchases – 12, 18, or 24 months of deferred-interest financing, depending on the amount. This can help if you’re buying pricey sports equipment and need to pay over time but proceed with caution (see drawbacks below).
ScoreCard Benefits
Like all ScoreCard members, cardholders can stack the regular loyalty benefits: exclusive coupons, access to sales, and the ability to earn extra points via the ScoreCard “MOVE” fitness tracker in the Dick’s mobile app. (For example, you can earn 3 points per day by hitting step or activity goals – a fun bonus, though it won’t rack up rewards fast due to the 3-point daily cap.)
No Annual Fee
Worth reiterating, the ScoreRewards card charges $0 annual fee, so you won’t pay just for owning it. This makes it easy to keep open for occasional use to maintain your Gold status.

Drawbacks and Things to Consider
While the Dick’s Sporting Goods credit card has some niche perks, it comes with significant limitations that might give frequent shoppers pause:
Limited Use of Rewards
The biggest catch is that your rewards are store-specific. Earning ~6% back at Dick’s sounds great, but it’s not cash – it’s store credit. If your sports gear spending varies or you’d prefer flexible rewards, a general 2% cashback card could actually provide more value in real dollars. With the Dick’s card, you’re essentially locked into redeeming at Dick’s stores only.
Mediocre Rewards Outside Dick’s
Earning 1 point per $3 spent on non-Dick’s purchases is very low – roughly 1% back in store rewards. Compare that to flat-rate cashback cards that earn 1.5%–2% cash back on everything. This card doesn’t reward everyday spending well.
High APR
Like many store credit cards, the interest rate is extremely high. The ScoreRewards Mastercard’s purchase APR is over 32% variable, which is far above average. Carrying a balance on this card would be very costly. Avoid carrying a balance on this card at all costs – and if you might need to, a low-APR card would be a better tool.
Deferred Interest Financing
Those special financing plans come with a deferred interest clause, not a true 0% APR deal. That means if you don’t pay off the full purchase by the end of the promo period, all the interest from day one gets added to your balance. This can turn a helpful 0% period into a nasty surprise.
Foreign Transaction Fee
The ScoreRewards Mastercard charges a 3% foreign transaction fee. If you’re traveling internationally or ordering from overseas merchants, this card will add extra cost.
Is the Dick’s Sporting Goods Credit Card Right for You?
The Dick’s ScoreRewards credit card is worth considering if you’re a die-hard Dick’s Sporting Goods shopper who spends a lot there and can take advantage of the 6% back in rewards and exclusive Gold status perks. If you’re planning a big purchase (new treadmill, home gym setup, etc.), the one-time sign-up bonus and promotional financing could save you some money as long as you pay on time. Essentially, this card works best as a specialized tool for maximizing rewards at Dick’s only.
However, for casual shoppers or those who prefer flexible rewards, this card likely isn’t the MVP. Occasional Dick’s customers would get more value from a no-annual-fee cashback card that can be used everywhere – and still use the regular ScoreCard loyalty program for points.
Bottom line: The Dick’s Sporting Goods ScoreRewards Mastercard can be worth it for loyal Dick’s enthusiasts – it effectively grants a ~6-10% store discount when used wisely, plus VIP perks like Gold status. Just be mindful of the high APR and make sure you’re comfortable earning store-only rewards.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Dick’s Sporting Goods credit card have an annual fee?
No, the ScoreRewards credit card has no annual fee. You can keep the card open at no cost.
What credit score do I need for the Dick’s credit card?
You’ll typically need good credit (around a 700 FICO score or higher) for approval. If you don’t qualify for the Mastercard, Synchrony may offer the store-only version instead.
Do ScoreRewards points expire?
Yes. Points expire after 12 months if you don’t earn enough to convert to a reward, and any issued $10 reward certificates generally expire after a set period.
Can I use the Dick’s credit card outside of Dick’s Sporting Goods?
Yes, but only if you have the ScoreRewards Mastercard version. The Mastercard can be used anywhere Mastercard is accepted, albeit at a low 1 point per $3 reward rate.
Is the ScoreRewards credit card worth it?
Yes – but only for certain shoppers. If you shop at Dick’s/Golf Galaxy/Public Lands very frequently and can maximize the 6% back in rewards (or 10% during promotions), the card can pay off in the form of lots of $10 reward certificates. For anyone else, no, a general-purpose cashback card is usually more valuable.
